Elastic wave propagation along waveguides in three-dimensional phononic crystals

چکیده
We investigate theoretically using the finite difference time domain method acoustic wave propagation along waveguides in three-dimensional phononic crystals constituted of lead spherical inclusions on a face-centered cubic lattice embedded in an epoxy matrix. The transmission spectra of the perfect phononic crystal for transverse and longitudinal acoustic waves are shown to depend strongly on the direction of propagation. The crystal possesses an absolute band gap. Waveguides oriented along different crystallographic directions, namely the k100l and k111l directions, exhibit pass bands in the phononic crystal band gaps for both transverse and longitudinal polarizations.

An efficient finite difference time domain algorithm for band structure calculations of Phononic crystal
In this paper, a new algorithm for studying elastic wave propagation in the phononic crystals is presented. At first, the displacement-based forms of elastic wave equations are derived and then the forms are discretized using finite difference method. So the new algorithm is called the displacement-based finite difference time domain (DBFDTD). Three numerical examples are computed with this met...

– The transmission properties of phononic crystal waveguides with grafted stub resonators were measured. The phononic crystal consists of a two-dimensional periodical array of steel rods immersed in water. Waveguides for acoustic waves are created by removing a line defect and stubs are formed by removing rods from the sidewalls of the waveguide. Depending on the stub geometry, definite wavelen...
متن کاملOne-Dimensional Mass-Spring Chains Supporting Elastic Waves with Non-Conventional Topology
Abstract: There are two classes of phononic structures that can support elastic waves with non-conventional topology, namely intrinsic and extrinsic systems. The non-conventional topology of elastic wave results from breaking time reversal symmetry (T-symmetry) of wave propagation. In extrinsic systems, energy is injected into the phononic structure to break T-symmetry. In intrinsic systems sym...
متن کاملFocusing on Plates: Controlling Guided Waves using Negative Refraction
Elastic waves are guided along finite structures such as cylinders, plates, or rods through reflection, refraction, and mode conversion at the interfaces. Such wave propagation is ubiquitous in the world around us, and studies of elastic waveguides first emerged in the later part of the 19(th) century. Early work on elastic waveguides revealed the presence of backward propagating waves, in whic...
